Consistently voted as one of the best travel destinations in the world, Cape Town is a city that caters to adults and kids alike. With Table Mountain as a backdrop, white sand beaches surrounding the city and rolling vineyards in the vista, a visit to the ‘Mother City’ during the festive season is the perfect family escape from the northern hemisphere’s icy winter months. Located in the heart of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the One&Only Cape Town is Jumbari’s top pick for families traveling to Cape Town with kids.
Surrounded by the tranquil waterways of the harbour, the luxury resort boasts impressive views of Table Mountain and offers the best of both worlds – convenience and exclusivity. Catering to all members of the family, One&Only Cape Town features a unique KidsOnly Club, a designated programme for teens, as well as a world-class spa and dining options for adults. We caught up with Lize Smit, the International Sales Manager of One&Only Cape Town to find out more about their family offering, as well as how they are working towards becoming a sustainable travel destination.

The KidsOnly program at One&Only Cape Town takes childcare to another level. The clubhouse is filled with everything a child could dream of; from state-of-the-art gadgets in the arts and crafts area to a high-tech movie and games lounge, a quiet reading area, computer room and an exclusive garden, your kids will be entertained for days on end.
In addition to this, we have a selection of games, including a special program for rainy days. We offer everything from kids yoga and water games by the pool for warm summer days. Cape Town harbour tours and treasure hunts are ideal for young adventurers whilst budding chefs – kitted out in their own personalised chef’s outfit – can learn all about cookie baking during cooking classes and tastings. Aspiring actors and actresses can enjoy taking part in stage productions and African dance classes, and plenty of creative masterpieces are bound to be unveiled during the indigenous crafts sessions.
Day tours for the little ones include strawberry picking excursions, visits to the Two Oceans Aquarium, the Scratch Patch, World of Birds and the Cape Town Science Centre and getting creative at Artjamming.
We have a designated program for our teens, some of the activities include Indoor Rock Climbing, Stand Up Paddling and hiking with our personal trainers.
There will be a number of festive events and activities happening across the resort for families to enjoy over the Christmas season. From a Frosted Christmas Afternoon Tea and a luxury Santa’s Picnic alongside our mesmerizing waterfront canals to special Christmas and New Year menus in our restaurants, Ochre and Nobu. Our KidsOnly Club will also be open for extended hours over the festive season to facilitate more playtime for the little ones and more relaxation time for the adults. Here, they’ll get to enjoy festive crafts and poolside games.
We believe that each individual and business is responsible for looking after the planet and its future, every day of the year. This means that no matter the activity; be it running a household, a business or going on holiday – there should be an appreciation and consideration for the world and its resources. Eco-tourism is a great way to learn, explore, and escape, whilst showing respect and appreciation for nature.
We have significantly reduced our water usage by adopting a number of water-saving and educational initiatives across the resort as well as introducing a water treatment plant and small desalination plant to lower our dependence on council water supply.
We have also decided to minimize single-use plastic across the resort as much as possible. From straws and takeaway cups to amenity bags and food containers, the materials used are now largely natural or biodegradable alternatives. In recognition of our commitment to environmental sustainability, One&Only Cape Town is proud to have achieved Earthcheck Bronze status in 2019, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism.
Charlotte Rhys waterless hand sanitizer has been placed in all bathrooms across the resort. Giving guests the option to use this instead of regular handwash is one way we’ve tried to encourage guests to be more water conscious. We have also asked guests to indicate when they would like their towels and linen washed by placing certain cards in their rooms. This way, we prevent excessive water usage from the unnecessary changing of these items.
