This 13 day Namibia family holiday takes your family on an exciting safari road trip through the oldest desert in the world. This Southern Africa destination is known for being home to some of the highest sand dunes in the world, one of the biggest Cape fur seal colonies in Africa and is home to unique desert-adapted wildlife. Your Namibia family holiday will set you up in family-friendly guest farms and lodges that cater to the needs of both adults and children. During your 13 days in Namibia your family will visit Gamsberg, the famous Sossusvlei, the seaside town of Swakopmund, Twyfelfontein, Ongava Game Reserve and Eastern Etosha.

Corona Guest Farm is a self-sustaining farm in the Gamsberg Mountains that supports job creation for the local people.

The Stiltz Hotel was awarded for their eco-tourism practices by Eco Awards Namibia in 2014.

Doro Nawas is an eco-friendly tented camp that is powered entirely from solar energy generated from the sun. Guests are also encouraged to connect with the local people and to gain insights into their culture and language.

Anderson’s Camp is a conservation-driven camp that operates their own Ongava Research Centre in support of the protection of Namibia’s wildlife. The centre has a specific interest in the conservation of both white and black rhino and protecting the natural resources of the reserve.

Mushara Bush Camp is an eco-friendly tented camp that is built entirely from local canvas, wood and limestone.

River Crossing Lodge is set on a 6500 hectare private reserve and is home to 19 different species of game.

Day 13 marks the final day of your Namibia family holiday.

Day 1

Villa Vista Guesthouse, Windhoek

Touch down at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, where you will be welcomed by a Jumbari representative who will escort you to your rental vehicle and assist with logistics of the vehicle handover. Our representative will provide you with your trip itinerary folder, driving directions as well as a cooler box with refreshments for your road trip.

Your Namibia family holiday officially starts as you depart the airport for your short drive to Villa Vista Guesthouse, a family-friendly establishment situated in a quiet neighborhood close to the city centre of Windhoek. Being family owned and managed, the guesthouse is the perfect overnight stay for the start of your Namibia family holiday. While you check into your family suite, the children can enjoy the garden and swimming pool after their long flight. Enjoy the rest of the day on the open terrace overlooking the mountains to the west, or enjoy a moment at the on-site sauna.

Day 2 - 3

Corona Guest Farm, Gamsberg

Wake up to a hearty breakfast at Villa Vista Guesthouse before departing to your next destination, Gamsberg – one of the top three venues for stargazing in the southern hemisphere. You can expect to cover approximately 84 miles from Windhoek before you will arrive at your stay for the night, Corona Guest Farm. This self-sustaining guest farm covers an area of 23000 hectares and is home to large herds of free-roaming Zebra, Kudu, Oryx and Steenbok.

Corona Guest Farm is the perfect stop-over for families traveling to Sossusvlei and offers a safe environment for children to explore. On arrival, you will check into your family suite located in the main farmhouse. The spacious suite features an ensuite bathroom, a small lounge and a private verandah which leads to the gardens.

Enjoy your afternoon at the large swimming pool or alternatively your family can set out on a hiking trail in search of bushmen art, enjoy a guided game drive or collect gemstones. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to experience the starlit African sky with your family.

Day 3 - 4

Kulala Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei

This morning you will wake up and enjoy breakfast before continuing your road trip to the famous Sossusvlei – bound to be a highlight of your Nambia family holiday. Your home for the next two nights will be the luxurious Kulala Desert Lodge situated at the foot of the Sossusvlei Dunes. With a private gate leading into the Sossusvlei, your family will have the benefit of being some of the first to enter the Namib-Naukluft National Park in the morning.

After checking into your private family “kulala” (meaning to sleep), you and the family can partake in a number of activities provided by the lodge. You can choose from nature drives, guided walks or exploring the open plains by electric “fat bikes” – an exciting activity for both adults and children. Should you want to experience a balloon safari over the famous Namibia dunes, this can be arranged at an additional cost.

After dinner, the kids can decide to do a sleep-out on the flat rooftop of your ‘kulala’ and spend their evening on the lookout for shooting stars and other constellations.

The following day you will have an early start as you set out to arrive at the Sesriem gate by sunrise in order to skip the heat of the day and to catch the best photographic opportunities. Today, you and your family will have the opportunity to climb some of the biggest dunes in the world! Don’t forget your water bottles, sunhats and sunscreen. On your way back to Kulala Desert Lodge you can also stop at Sesriem Canyon.

Day 5 - 6

The Stiltz Hotel, Swakopmund

Enjoy your last breakfast at Kulala Desert Lodge and set off for your 5-hour drive to Swakopmund, a popular seaside town in Namibia. Enroute you can stop at Walvis Bay, famous for a large number of flamingos and pelicans that occupy the lagoon. Optional activities in Walvis Bay include an afternoon on the beach or a visit to the aquarium.   

On arrival at Swakopmund, you will check into The Stiltz Hotel, your home for the next two days. Depending on the size of your family you will either sleep in the family bungalow (sleeping 4) or in the family villa (sleeping 6). Built on wooden stilts, the wooden cabins feature a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a coffee station, mini-bar and wi-fi.

Optional activities for your day includes a kayak trip to Pelican Point or a boat excursion where your children will have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins and flamingos. Alternatively, your kids can partake in the Living Desert Tour where they can learn more about desert lizards, geckos and more.

Day 7 - 8

Doro Nawas Camp, Damaraland

Today, your Namibia family holiday takes you to Damaraland, north of Swakopmund. Keep your eyes peeled for wild zebra and other game next to the road. After a 4.5-hour drive you will arrive at your lodge, Doro Nawas. After a quick check-in to your family room you can spend the rest of your day at leisure at the swimming pool or alternatively, you can set out on a game drive, a San rock art tour or visit Namibia’s first World Heritage Site. This evening, it could be your chance to try out the sleep-out on the roof of your suite.

Your next day in Damaraland can be spent as you see fit. You can explore the area on a nature walk or you can decide to visit the organ pipes (rock formations), the burnt mountain, or alternatively, you can take a day trip in search of desert-adapted elephants.

Day 9

Anderson’s Camp, Ongava Game Reserve

Your Namibia family holiday continues with a 3-hour drive to Etosha, bound to be another highlight of your trip. You will settle in at Anderson’s Camp situated in Ongava Game Reserve, an private camp sleeping a maximum of 18 guests. This family-friendly safari lodge is fenced off to secure the property for children and also features a large swimming pool to be enjoyed by the kids. A highlight of the camp is its floodlit waterhole which allows you and your family to keep a watchful eye on wildlife during the day and night. If you are a keen photographer, the camp also features a water-level hide where you can capture wildlife shots unobtrusively.

Day 10 - 11

Mashara Bush Camp, Etosha Game Reserve

Today, you and your family will explore Etosha National Park on a self-drive safari. You will be supplied with a map of the park and the location of prominent waterholes where you will be able to spot abundant wildlife. At around lunchtime, you can retreat to the comfort of your next home base, Mushara Bush Camp. Situated only 6 miles from the Von Lindequist gate, the camp gives you direct access to great wildlife sightings. After a quick check-in, you can enjoy lunch and a swim in the pool before heading off for your afternoon game drive.

Your second day at Mushara Bush Camp will start with a hearty breakfast and continue with a game drive through the park. You will have the option to stop at Halali Camp to stretch your legs, enjoy lunch and cool off in their swimming pool, before heading back to Mushara.

Day 12

River Crossing Lodge, Windhoek

Today marks the last day on your Namibia family holiday. Depart Etosha and start your journey southwards towards Windhoek. If you are interested in doing some last minute shopping you can visit the Okahanja Market that sells local crafts and souvenirs.

Your last evening in Windhoek will be spent at the River Crossing Lodge, located on a 6500 heactare reserve only 5 minutes from the city centre. Your rental car will be collected from the lodge this evening to ensure a stress-free departure to the airport the following day. Depending on the time of your arrival you can enjoy your last game drive on your Nambia family holiday or alternatively, you can explore the reserve by horseback. This evening you will enjoy your last family dinner at the lodge and share your highlights of your Jumbari Family Safari.
