Introduce your family to East Africa with none other than a bucket list Serengeti Family Safari. Beginning in the Coffee region of Ausha, Tanzania, you will traverse through the National Parks and into the Ngorongoro Crater before air chartering further north into the Serengeti for an authentic tented camp experience. Your Serengti Family Safari will be spent at The African Tulip, Lemala Ngorongoro and Lemala Ewanjan alongside expert wildlife guides and safari experiences including the Lemala Cubs Programme – a fun and educational wildlife programme dedicated to showing future generations the need for conservation. The minimum age for this safari is 6 years and up.
The African Tulip hires members of the local community and artwork and furnishings are sourced locally.
Both Lemala Ngorongoro and Lemala Ewanjan are dedicated to minimizing their environmental footprint through what they define as ‘ECO’logical tourism practices. The lodges uses a combination of solar power and an inverter system to power the camps. In addition, food supplied on the menus at Ngorongoro and Ewanjan is locally produced where possible and plastic bottles are not used on any Lemala properties.
The African Tulip welcomes children of all ages with children under the age of 3 sharing on a complimentary basis. In addition to larger suites, the hotel also offers a family suite that has two separate bedrooms with bathrooms and a large communal lounge area.
Both Lemala Ngorongoro and Lemala Ewanjan offer the Lemala Cubs programme, offering a range of activities for children between ages 6 and 11. The Lemala Cubs activities may include identifying animals and birds, learning how to throw kiddie-friendly spears and use bows and arrows like the Maasai, being taught tracking and spoor identification techniques by our guides, walking with the Maasai to hear stories about their culture and way of life in the bush, and even joining the chefs in the kitchen to prepare meals or roasting marshmallows over the campfire before bed.
Your Serengeti Family Safari begins on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your family will be welcomed by a Jumbari Family Safaris representative who will accompany you and your family to The African Tulip – a 90 minute drive into the coffee region of Arusha. Located in the heart of the town, The African Tulip is the perfect rest stop after a long haul flight in preparation of your East Africa safari experience.
The African Tulip is an elegant boutique hotel designed with safari travelers and families in mind, offering 29 uniquely styled rooms that use warm African tones, traditional material and local art throughout.

Lemala Ngorongoro is set in an ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater. Lemala guests will have an hour’s head start on the descent into the Crater due to its prime location and exclusive Lemala access road on the eastern side.
Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp has 9 spacious tents that are positioned carefully to provide privacy and with minimal impact on the pristine forest environment. The tents accommodate two queen-size beds, and as it can get cool on the Ngorongoro Crater rim at night, little luxuries like warm winter-weight duvets, hot water bottles and gas heaters ensure a cosy night’s sleep. Bathrooms contain a dressing area, flush toilets and a large safari-style shower.
Your mornings will start as early as 06h15 with a crater descent game drive into the Ngorongoro Crater, arriving on the crater floor, surrounded by wildlife within 10 – 15 minutes. Enjoy a coffee break and a light snack before making your way back for breakfast and afternoon activities.
Afternoons can be spent with a family style crater rim walk ending at a traditional Maasai Boma where you can learn about the fascinating Maasai culture with a tour conducted by a village chief.
All meals and local drinks included
