Your journey begins in the bustling city of Cape Town. Wedged between one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Winelands, your time in Cape Town can be spent soaking up the city’s natural surroundings as well as discovering its local cuisine, rich history and diverse culture. Next up, tick a Second Natural Wonder off your list as you head across the border into Zambia to witness the mighty Victoria Falls. Your eco-sensitive lodge, Tongabezi Lodge, invites you to reconnect with nature on daily game drives, walking safaris and sunset cruises along the Zambezi River. You will also have the opportunity to explore the local village, school and market to learn more about Zambian Culture. The last leg of your journey takes you to back to South Africa and into the greater Kruger National Park. Your eco-friendly safari lodge, Camp Jabulani gives you a private VIP tour of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, one of South Africa’s most respected and successful conservation centres.

Eco-friendly:

Belmond Mount Nelson is dedicated to reducing its impact on the environment. The hotel has implemented several water and energy saving initiatives including energy-saving light bulbs and energy-saving heat pumps. The estate uses spring water to irrigate the gardens and has an on-site worm farm which turns organic matter into compost to fertilise the gardens. Belmond Mount Nelson implements a recycling programme and uses environmentally friendly cleaning products. Invested in community upliftment, the hotel supports local school and offers training and skills development programmes. The hotel uses locally sourced herbs and buys organic vegetables from the township community farmers.

Tongabezi Lodge is eco-friendly and has an in-house bottling system which eradicates the use of up to 20,000 water bottles and 2,000 tin cans per year. The lodge features an organic vegetable garden and meals are prepared daily with fresh ingredients from the garden. Tongabezi Lodge is involved in a number of community projects and provides education to the Tongabezi staff children from the local community.

Camp Jabulani is a low impact safari lodge constructed from recycled and natural materials. The lodge offers a number of sustainable tourism initiatives and gives direct access to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre. The lodge implements a recycling programme and has a water treatment facility.

Belmond Mount Nelson is ideal for families traveling with children. The hotel offers a dedicated children’s centre with child-friendly activities and professional child-minding, a kids’ welcome pack with snacks and in-room kiddies amenities.

Tongabezi Lodge is ideal for an African family getaway. The lodge offers a dedicated children’s menu, as well as expertly trained staff who initiate engaging children’s activities including treasure hunts, board games, tailor-made game drives and tracking in and around the Tongabezi grounds.

Continue your conservation safari in Zambia

Located on the banks of the Zambezi River, Tongabezi Lodge gives you easy access to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. Ideal for a family getaway, the lodge offers accommodating cottages as well as private houses. Enjoy game drives, walking safaris and a visit to the local village and school.

Day 7 - 9: Camp Jabulani
Continue your conservation safari at Camp Jabulani

Located in Kapama Private Game Reserve, this eco-friendly lodge is renowned for the Jabulani elephant herd that call Camp Jabulani home. Enjoy daily game drives, bush walks and help collect data for elephant research. Your conservation safari offers an exclusive visit to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC).

Day 10 marks the final day of your conservation safari. After a final hearty breakfast at Camp Jabulani, your driver will meet you for your transfer you to Hoedspruit Airport for your onward journey home.

In partnership with the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, Jumbari Family Safaris will donate 1% of each booking value to the HESC on your behalf, as well as a personalized certificate to acknowledge your support.

Day 1 - 4

Belmond Mount Nelson, Cape Town

Touch down in Cape Town, where a Jumbari Family Safaris representative will be ready to accompany you to your hotel in the ‘Mother City’, the Belmond Mount Nelson. Located in the heart of the city, the Belmond Mount Nelson is a mere 20-minute drive from Cape Town International Airport.

With Table Mountain in the vista, the Belmond Mount Nelson is a retreat for the whole family. While you check-in, your littles will be taken care of with a kiddie welcome pack and a selection of welcome treats. The blush hotel features a Kids Club Area for children aged 3 to 12, as well as professional childminders who will organize interactive activities to keep your children entertained throughout the day.

Belmond Mount Nelson is dedicated to reducing its impact on the environment. With an aim to connect guests to nature, they offer expertly guided sunset fynbos walks followed by sundowners and canapés on the slopes of Table Mountain. For dinner, Jumbari will assist in booking a Chefs Table dining experience at the hotel, using locally sourced organic ingredients.

On day 2, enjoy a half day private excursion to the Winelands. Your guide will take you to 2 wine farms in the Franschhoek area. Visit Backsberg, one of three carbon neutral wineries in the world, is committed to environmental practices and implements a number of systems to ensure they are sustainable.  

An optional activity to include in your Conservation Safari is the Township Farm Tour. Taking you to two successful township farms in Khayelitsha, you will spend half a day with Mama Kaba exploring the gardens and picking vegetables straight from the soil.

Tongabezi Lodge, Zambia

After a final refreshing breakfast at the foot of Table Mountain, your driver will meet you to transfer you from the Belmond Mount Nelson to Cape Town International Airport. Next up, check-in for you 2-hour and 50-minute flight to Livingstone Airport in Zambia. Touch down where a Jumbari Family Safari representative will meet you and accompany you to Tongabezi Lodge, featured on The Gold List 2018 by Condé Nast Traveller.

Located on the banks of the Zambezi River, Tongabezi Lodge gives you easy access to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. Ideal for a family getaway, the lodge offers accommodating cottages, as well as private houses. The lodge features an organic vegetable garden which contributes to the fresh meals prepared for guests each day.

There is no set pattern to your days at Tongabezi Lodge. This flexibility is great for families and you can choose to spend your days according to your mood. Enjoy engaging game drives, sunset boat trips on the Zambezi, guided tours of Victoria Falls and a private lunch on the lodge’s sand bar. Visit Simonga village to learn more about Zambian culture or the Tongabezi Trust School, a local primary school completely funded on donations.

Day 7 - 9

Camp Jabulani, Kapama Private Game Reserve

After your morning activity and a filling breakfast back at the lodge, your driver will meet you to transfer you to Livingstone Airport for your flight to South Africa for the start of your conservation safari. Your flight takes you to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, where your driver will be ready to transfer you to Camp Jabulani, a 2-and-a-half-hour drive away.

Located in Kapama Private Game Reserve, this eco-friendly lodge is constructed from recycled and natural materials from grass-pressed walls, stone floors to thatched roofing. Each luxurious suite was designed with privacy in mind and opens up to a private plunge pool overlooking the riverbed, perfect for a dip after a day out on safari.

The lodge is renowned for the Jabulani elephant herd that call Camp Jabulani home and 50% of each booking goes towards the upkeep and care of the elephants that call Jabulani home. Daily activities at the lodge include game drives through Kapama Private Game Reserve, guided bush walks, collecting data for Elephant research with experienced game rangers and sundowners and canapés overlooking the dam at the lodge – a crossing frequented by the Jabulani herd.

Camp Jabulani invites you to partake in a number of sustainable tourism initiatives. Your conservation safari offers an exclusive visit to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC). The two-hour guided tour gives you insight into the work that has been done at the Centre for the past 30 years, as well as the opportunity to see the animals in their care. While at the HESC, guests are able to fund and participate in the dehorning of the rescued rhinos.

At an additional cost, you can partake in a Rhino Conservation Safari and gain a unique insight into the white rhino. Join the HESC conservation team as they track, dart and sedate rhinos in preparation for microchipping and ear-notching. All proceeds go towards the cost of the conservation exercise and the Rhino Conservation Fund.

Your stay also includes contributions to various community projects and 8% towards the upkeep of the animals at HESC and other community projects.
