This 8-day Zimbabwe family safari starts in Bulawayo, in southwest Zimbabwe, and ends at one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls. Your family will travel to Matoba National Park and Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest natural reserve. In addition to game drives, your family will have the unique opportunity to partake in guided walking safaris and rhino trekking in both parks. Famous for its large granite boulders dating back 2 billion years, Matoba National Park is home to both black and white rhinoceros as well as large concentrations of wild dog, which you will encounter on foot. Stay at the family-friendly Amalinda Lodge located on the edge of the park and enjoy daily game drives, bicycle tours and community visits. Next up, you will spend 3 nights in Hwange National Park, the perfect safari for families traveling to Zimbabwe. The park offers excellent game viewing opportunities and close-up encounters with the Presidential Elephant Herd – a herd of over 500 wild African elephants consisting of 17 elephant families. If you are up for more adventure, you can also approach this on foot, alongside your expert guide. *If you would like to extend your trip in Victoria Falls, additional accommodation can be arranged at an additional cost.

Amalinda Lodge is a family-run safari lodge that caters for families unique travel needs such as babysitting services. The Lodge is located in a malaria-free area, ensuring a risk-free Zimbabwe family safari. Private vehicles are available for private family game drives. Families are accommodated in a large family room fitted with 2 double-beds. If required, there is ample space for an additional single bed for larger families.

Ivory Lodge accommodates families in their family room as well as 2 suites that can be converted to triples for families with children under 12 years. Private vehicles are available for family game drives and

babysitting services are offered at Ivory Lodge.


Amalinda Lodge is a founding member of the Mother Africa Trust, an initiative that facilitates the socio-economic development and empowerment of rural communities in Matapos and Hwange. The lodge supports eco-friendly practices such as wood-fired hot water systems.

Ivory Lodge is a founding member of the Conservation Wildlife Fund in Hwange.

Day 1 - 4: Amalinda Lodge

Your Zimbabwe family safari starts on arrival at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo. Here, our Jumbari representative will meet you for your transfer to Amalinda Lodge located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Matoba Hills. 

The next three days can be spent exploring Matoba National Park and the surrounding area or alternatively, you can relax at the infinity pool at Amalinda Lodge or the in-house spa. 

This trip is a safari for families who have a keen interest in wildlife conservation as you will have the opportunity to track endangered species such as the black and white rhino on foot or vehicle. Other activities include historical excursions to San rock art, community cycling tours and game drives in Matoba National Park.

Day 4 - 7: Ivory Lodge

After your morning game drive and breakfast at the lodge, your family will be transferred to Hwange National Park and check-in at Ivory Lodge. 

Located on the outskirts of Hwange National Park, Ivory Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve. The family-friendly lodge is built on stilted wooden platforms offering the entire family elevated views of the surrounding area. The lodge is also famous for up-close sightings of the Presidential Elephant Herd who frequents the watering hole in front of the lodge. Observing wildlife from the comfort of the lodge is bound to be one of the highlights of your Zimbabwe family safari. The next three days at Ivory Lodge will include guided game walks, Dete cultural tours and guided game drives.

The last day of your family safari will end off with a morning game activity followed by breakfast at the lodge. After check-out, you will be transferred to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward flight home.
