While Zimbabwe’s crown jewel is the stunning Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and where one would experience some of the best vantage points of it while on foot, this beautiful country is also home to Mana Pools National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Hwange National Park (one of the 10 largest national parks in Africa), where some of southern Africa’s last great elephant, buffalo and sable herds roam freely and other superb big game safaris can be experienced all year round.
While Zimbabwe can be visited throughout the year as temperatures are always quite pleasant, the best Big 5 game viewing is between May and October during the dry season. But if you want a more exclusive safari experience and enjoy dense and lush vegetation, parks are greenest between November and April.
Our recommended activities in Zimbabwe:
* A guided tour of the iconic Victoria Falls (heli flip optional).
* A sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River.
* A trip to Matobo National Park (another UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its granite scenery).
* Take a hugely rewarding Pay It Forward tour where you can give back to a local community. Choose which organisation you’d would like to support, you’ll then be provided with a “wish list” from that community and sent off to source the items they need from in around Victoria Falls town, before delivering the items yourself. Meet and engage with the recipients as you pay it forward.
